Green Yoga Studio

Trivial Pur-Sutra

11.02.2009

The Bite:
Board with your workout routine? Up your fitness game at the brand-new Sutra Yoga & Wellness Center, opening Sunday. From the co-owners of Sutra restaurant and Rain City Yoga, the SYWC offers Prana Vinyasa (gently heated Vinyasa yoga) and Surya (hot, strength-based yoga) classes at all levels. The studio is insulated with used denim jeans; its bamboo floors are sustainably harvested; and the walls sport zero-VOC paints from Ecohaus. Eco-friendly mats are on hand if you forget yours, plus it sells sustainable Manduka mats. Any questions?
Why Care?:
Yoga can contribute to better sleep and a stronger immune system; and practicing in an eco-studio minimizes your exposure to VOCs (linked to headaches and nervous-system damage) and cancer-linked chems in PVC plastic in conventional yoga mats.
We're excited to pop into Sutra restaurant for a tasty, veggiecentric dinner (maybe with some Raw Cacao Cardamom Fudge for dessert) after our downward dogging.
Wanna Try:
Sutra Yoga and Wellness Center, 1621 NE 45th St. (206-729-9642). Introductory specials, $45/5-class pass (regularly $65); $75/10-class pass (regularly $105).

Cocktail Fact

Trivial Pursuit, invented by two Canadian journalists in 1979, is available in 17 languages.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Seattle Biters use an eco-mat instead of a PVC one, we'll keep the weight of 167 yogis in nonrecyclable, nonbiodegradable plastic out of landfills.
