Organic Sparkling Wine

Bubble, Bubble, Toil, and Trouble

10.28.2009

The Bite:
Want some wicked bubbly? Guerneville's Korbel is conjuring up its first sparkling wine made with 100% organic grapes this month. It took time to convert the vines to organic standards (Korbel scored a CCOF certification back in 2007), but the new organic California Brut is ready to throw a crisp, dry, apple-y, pear-y party in your mouth - perfect for rich, buttery cheese pairings (or, you know, a fistful of Halloween candy). It's crafty.

Why Care?:
Grapes grown according to USDA organic certification requirements don't use synthetic pesticides (more than 80% of the most common pesticides are potentially carcinogenic), herbicides, or fertilizers.

We're having a Halloween party (think fake cobwebs, wet spaghetti brains, and peeled grape eyeballs) - and Korbel California Brut is invited.

Wanna Try:

Cocktail Fact

In 2008, U.S. organic food and wine sales shot up 17% from 2007.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 SF Biters buy just one bottle of organic sparkling instead of a regular bottle, we'll vote with our dollars by contributing $160,000 toward organic products, potentially encouraging more farms to go organic.
