Eyebrow:
Locally Made Cider

Breathe a Cider of Relief

The Bite:
Worried about what to serve pals who don't drink much wine or beer? Relax and stock up on Doc's Hard Cider. It's made locally in Warwick, NY, and comes in three flavors. There's traditional apple with a strong apple taste and a dry finish; pear with a lighter taste of Bartletts blended with apples; and refreshing raspberry added to apple cider and refermented to get that fizzy champagne effect. They've got 5.5% alcohol too…as much as your average beer. Ah…
Why Care?:
Drinking cider made within a few miles = fewer heavy bottles shipped long distances, which cuts back on fuel and CO2 emissions.
We like to sip apple cider with a plate of parmesan - the grown-up version of eating cheddar on apples.
Wanna Try:
Doc's Draft Hard Cider, available at Union Beer Distributors, 1213 Grand St., Brooklyn (718-497-2407). Doc's Draft Hard Apple Cider, $5/22 ounces.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters sip a six-pack of locally made cider instead of a six-pack made in upstate VT, we'll conserve enough fuel to fill seven kitchen sinks.
