Locally Made Table Accessories

Turntable

11.04.2009

The Bite:
Wanna put an eco-spin on your holiday table? Round up Dinner-Ware's cork coasters, trivets, and porcelain napkin rings - all handmade locally in Hudson, NY. The rings come with letters or in mod-like designs including colorful dots and pinwheel-ish flowers. Coasters and trivets have fancy prints such as chandeliers; nature-themed prints like florals and birch trees; or artsy looks resembling the Klimt-like geo pattern. Plus, because they're cork, they won't scratch your table.
Why Care?:
Napkin rings keep cloth napkins separate and sanitary, so you (and guests) can reuse them a few times before washing. And cork is a sustainable material made from stripping bark off cork oak trees without damaging the trees.
We plan on getting an alphabet ring for each fam member this Thanksgiving so that there's no confusion about whose is whose.
Wanna Try:
Dinner-Ware Handmade Tabletop, available online or at Haus Interior, 250 Elizabeth St. (212-741-0455). Alphabet Napkin Rings, $48/set of 4.

Cocktail Fact

Musicians used turntables to sample and create music (not just play records) as far back as 1930.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 NY Biters reuse a cloth napkin just once instead of washing it, we'll conserve enough water to fill 80 bathtubs.
