Eyebrow:
Vegan Menu

Desert Island

The Bite:
Think vegan food means getting stranded without flavor? Hardly. Cast away to Desert Rose for its special Vegan Menu, filled with Mediterranean-Californian options. Go the soup-and-salad route: spicy, delish Roasted Eggplant Soup with falafel, topped with lemon-tahini drizzle and fresh mint, and the parsley-tastic Tabbouleh Salad, or try the Portobello Mushroom and "Cheese" (nondairy) Panini. If you're there in the late afternoon or early evening, take advantage of discounted drinks and apps (vegan options here too) for happy hour on the happenin' patio - you won't be alone.
Why Care?:
A meatless diet is 50% more effective at cutting CO2 than switching from a standard car to a hybrid, so opting for veg-centric meals once in a while helps the earth (and is cheaper than buying a Prius).
We love DR's mostly outdoor seating (gotta love LA for that) and that we can mosey over to eco-boutique Undesigned after we eat.
Wanna Try:
Desert Rose, 1700 Hillhurst Ave., Los Feliz (323-666-1166). Roasted Eggplant Soup, $6; Tabbouleh Salad, $8; Portobello Mushroom and "Cheese" Panini, $14.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters chow a vegetarian meal instead of red meat once a week, in a year we'll avert the emissions produced by driving a car around the equator 464 times.
