Tea Bar

Mr. Tea

10.30.2009

The Bite:
We pity the fool who doesn't try T Salon. This new, comfy, Zen-like sustainable tea bar, café, and market's got every type of tea from black to red, plus wellness and blooming varieties, and many organic options like the clean, antioxidant-packed Organic Green Lung Ching. Jenny Cooks catering created a farm-to-table menu including baked goods (some vegan) like scones, plus the place is dressed in bamboo from floor to ceiling, and sports light fixtures made from recycled tea bags. It makes the A-Team.
Why Care?:
Tea from outside the United States may still contain toxic baddies like the pesticide DDT. And while you can wash away pesticides on your nonorganic veggies, you can't wash 'em off your tea, so go for 'cide-free varieties.
We like that T Salon has 20 daily iced teas on tap - so that we can sample 'em before buying - and that it'll have a beer/wine license soon-ish.
Wanna Try:
T Salon, 7111 Melrose Ave., WeHo (323-655-2757). Organic Green Lung Ching, $14/3.5 ounces.

Cocktail Fact

Mr. T's worked as a gym teacher, military policeman, bouncer, and bodyguard (for Steve McQueen, Muhammad Ali, and Diana Ross).

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 LA Biters drink a cup of organic tea instead of conventional tea every day for a year, we'll keep the weight of 280 clay teapots in pesticides from pouring into the environment.
