Reusable Lunch Bags

Out to Lunch

10.30.2009

The Bite:
Get the memo on reusable lunch gear? Here it is: Take a break from disposables and pricey takeout with Litter Free Lunch's organic cotton cloth napkins and - new this month - reusable sandwich and snack bags. They all come in solid colors like bright red or light blue (no kiddie cartoony prints here) and have Velcro closures, so sandwiches and nuts stay put. When you're done, you can just pop everything into the laundry. There are also recycled-plastic, reusable lunch bags so you can skip out on brown paper ones when you're packing it all up.
Why Care?:
Bringing your lunch to work in reusable containers can avert up to 67 pounds of trash each year.
We're big BYOLunchers, so we're especially excited to find some reusable sandwich bags made in IL - many are made in China.
Wanna Try:
Litter Free Lunch, available online or by appointment for pickup in its Naperville office (630-983-6022). Napkins, $30/ 5; sandwich bag, $9.

Cocktail Fact

Our typical lunch fare may have been named after Lord John Montagu (1718-1792), the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, who brought his corned beef and bread directly to the gambling table to avoid interruptions for meals.

Small Changes Add Up

If 10,000 Chicago Biters opt for a reusable sandwich bag instead of a box of disposables, we'll keep the weight of 24 coworkers in plastic out of landfills.
