There are so many things hiding in our medicine cabinet that we rarely touch but maybe we should, Vicks VapoRub is one of them. The active ingredients in Vicks VapoRub camphor, eucalyptus oil and menthol don’t just suppress coughing, they can be used in a large variety of weird and wacky home remedies.
1. Acne Treatment
Soothe sores, protect against pimples and stop over drying. Use Vicks VapoRub as an acne treatment: to get rid of whiteheads, keep blackheads from getting infected and ease swelling. This is a cheap and easy trick to managing acne.
2. Mosquito Repellant
Vicks keeps mosquitoes away. To use simply apply a little bit of Vicks VapoRub on your clothing or skin and pesky mosquitos will want nothing to do with you. For the days when you run out of bugs spray and mosquitos attack when you’re least expecting, Vicks VapoRub is there.
If you’re looking for weird and wacky hacks for Vicks VapoRub, I’d say this definitely qualifies. Vicks is said to help reduce the itch in the only place where hemorrhoids are known to develop. And it is apparently “highly effective” once you get over the “tingle”. Caution: Vicks should not be applied internally.
Vicks VapoRub lessens the inflammation and itchiness of eczema. Although I wouldn’t recommend this as a substitute for the creams and solutions the doctor gives you, it’s a good life hack if you run out.
5. Wart Remover
Say goodbye to plantar warts. Apply Vicks twice a day to a wart and it will vanish without a trace. Although I must say this doesn’t work every time, this is a less painful and highly cost effective alternative to getting a doctor to freeze your wart off. Even with professional care warts don’t always go away.
6. Fungus (athlete’s foot)
Vicks VapoRub contains hydrogen peroxide and essential oils with antifungal properties, including thyme, eucalyptus, cinnamon, etc. To heal athlete’s foot and other fungal afflictions simply rub a little bit of Vicks VapoRub two times a day to the afflicted area.
7. Ear Infection
To stop an ear infection simply apply Vicks VapoRub to a cotton ball and plop it into your aching ear. Leave the cotton ball in your ear overnight and by morning your ear infection will be no more.
8. Stretch Marks
Get stretch marks to fade away by using Vicks. After two weeks there will be no physical evidence that you had a baby. Except perhaps some minor hair loss when the kid gets to the age of two.
The menthol from Vicks helps you to get quick relief from headaches and cold symptoms. Apply Vicks below your nose, take a deep breath and voila, you are suddenly a little more able to deal with the day.
Vicks and salt is an old home remedy to get rid of bruises. Add a pinch of salt to Vicks VapoRub and apply it on a bruise. The bruise will fade in a few days, just like magic.
11. Pet Pee
Stop your pet from soiling the carpet. Rub some Vicks or just place an open bottle around the spots where your pet frequently has accidents and they won’t be marking their territory there anymore.
If you want your cat to stop scratching up everything, windows, walls, cabinets, doors etc. smear some Vicks on them and your cat will finally stop trying to claw it’s way out (or in).
13. Splinters and Small Cuts
What’s that saying? “The devil’s in the details”… I can only assume they were talking about splinters and papercuts because let’s be honest those things HURT. For speeding up the healing time and preventing infection, apply Vicks on any splinter or cut.
14. Lip balm
If you are like me and suffer from chronically dry lips and your chapstick is always getting sucked into the black hole that is your purse, then this tip is for you. Vicks VapoRub can double as a lip balm. So when you have lost your chapstick for the millionth time you can take refuge and spread a little bit of Vicks on your lips.
15. Skin hydration and rejuvenation
From tennis elbow to cracked heels Vicks is a go to to get rid of dry crusty skin and ease irritation. Vicks VapoRub can be used to moisturize your skin. You can see the positive results here in this video.
It’s amazing all the home remedies that bottle of Vicks Vaporub has. Break that blue bottle out of the medicine cabinet and try them out yourself. You never know, you might be able to add another life hack to your portfolio.
